Keep Your Eye On The Ball Just like in real golf, you don’t want to pull your head up too early. With my game, when you first hit the Move button, the controller synchs up with the camera to designate that the spot you pointed to on the ground with the controller is the ball. When you bring your arms back and eventually swing through the shot, you want to try and bring your hands on a path that will get as close as possible to your original starting position to ensure a long, straight shot. A lot of people who have played John Daly’s ProStroke Golf have found that it helps to put a real golf ball on the floor in front of you to give you a better visual reference. Follow Through One of the most common mistakes I see from people who are playing my game and do not golf much in real life is not following through. Although a proper backswing is crucial, your follow through is half of your shot! When playing John Daly’s ProStroke Golf, your follow will help you get a clean shot, so be sure to not only get a full backswing, but bring the controller through the point of (virtual) contact and all the way through, making your follow through a mirror of your back swing. Pay Attention to Your Wrists Whether you’re a weekend warrior or a medium to high-handicapper, you’ve probably at one point experienced an unintentional draw or fade ?possibly even a hook or slice. While there are a variety of reasons why your ball might not go straight when you want it to, one of the most common is the club face being open or closed on impact. This is caused by rotating your wrists either too much or not enough through the downswing. When you first start your swing and address the ball, the face of your club head should be perpendicular to your intended target line. When you begin your swing, your wrists will naturally rotate…but sometimes, when you begin your downswing, your club head will not return to that perpendicular line when you strike the ball, causing the ball to go either left or right, depending on if you rotated your wrists not enough or too much, respectively. This aspect of your golf swing will definitely play a factor in John Daly’s ProStroke Golf, as the Move controller is very sensitive and tracks your entire club movement, including your wrist rotation. If you want to hit a draw or a fade, then experiment with an open and closed stance and different wrist positions until you get the shot-shaping ability right! Full Backswing ?Grip It and Rip It! Throughout my golf career, I’ve been known for bombing it down the fairways and (still) being one of the longest hitters on the PGA tour. One of the biggest reasons they call me “Long John Daly?and why I’m able to get such long distances on my tee shots is due to my full backswing and the club head speed I generate. With a real golf club, you’ll want to go as far back in your backswing as you can while staying comfortable and balanced, as the farther you go back, the more power you’ll generate ?think of your swing as a coiled spring. The more you push down on it, the more it will bounce back when you let go. In my game, John Daly’s ProStroke Golf, this is fully implemented, and you’ll be rewarded with extra distance the farther you can bring back your club. You can even overswing if you really bring the club back and Grip It and Rip It, getting a truly monster drive! Pay Attention to the Conditions Golf is physical, to be sure, but it’s one of the most mentally involved of the professional sports. Not only do you need to be able to do the fundamental physical motions and movements required to hit the ball in the direction you need it to go, but you also have to mentally account for the variables that will have a huge impact on your shot making ability. What’s the wind speed, and from what direction is it coming? How’s your lie? Are you sitting up nicely or are you buried? How many yards to the pin? What’s the maximum distance with the club you’re holding and how hard do you need to swing to hit the ball close? All these questions (and many more) go through the head of a golfer before each shot. In John Daly’s ProStroke Golf, it’s no different. Displayed on screen are all the variables to assist your set up, and with the Move controller, it couldn’t be easier. Swing harder with a longer backswing to hit the ball farther, checking your distance which is displayed on screen. Adjust your aim to account for any winds, especially on your higher trajectory shots with your high irons and wedges. Check your lie, as you might have to club or muscle up if your ball is slightly buried in long grass or sand. All the variables that will affect your shot are displayed in John Daly’s ProStroke Golf, and all can be accounted for quickly, easily and allow you to shape the perfect shot and get your scoring low
